After a thrilling final leg of The Amazing Race Australia it was an emotional and exhausted team ‘Memory Makers’, Heath and Toni, who walked away with the biggest prize in The Amazing Race Australia’s history – two brand new Isuzu vehicles – a D-MAX and an MU-X, as well as $250,000 in cold hard cash. Heath and Toni also can now stake claim to being the first husband and wife team to win The Amazing Race Australia.
“I still can’t believe that we’ve done it, even though we’ve watched ourselves on TV and shared the experience with family and friends,” Toni said.
“I’m like, we’ve done all that and it was just this year but I can’t believe it. It’s not sinking in, and it’s definitely not sinking in that we won!”
Heading into the final series of challenges in spectacular Broome in WA, Heath and Toni faced tough competition from two other remaining couples; newlywed teachers Kelly and Georgia, and ‘Church Friends’ team Angel and Frankie – but triumphed in the end to emerge victorious after a gruelling race around the globe that did away with 17 other couples before the season’s finale.
Before landing back in Australia for the race to the finish line, contestants faced several weeks of challenges in Morocco, Greece, Turkey, Colombia, Belize and Mexico.
Reflecting on the moment they met the teams they were competing against, Heath and Toni admitted they never thought they would be the team to take home the biggest prize in The Amazing Race Australia’s history.
“We went on The Amazing Race to see a few countries and have some amazing experiences, meet some fabulous people,” Toni explained.
“We always said we’re on this for the experience, there’s no chance we’d win, and then… here we are,” Heath added.
If you missed the finale, you can catch it – and all of the preceding episodes – on 10 Play and while you’re there you can enter the draw to win your very own Isuzu D-MAX or MU-X, but hurry as entries close 13 November, 2022!
