Reflective of the best-cars available to Australian motorists, News Corp Australia’s Motoring section has recently awarded the All-New Isuzu D-MAX as their ‘2020 Ute of the Year’, as part of the newspaper group’s annual ‘Car of the Year Awards’.
For the last 24 years, the annual ‘Car of the Year Awards’ has evaluated the latest vehicles introduced to Australian roads; pitting these combatants against their segment rivals in one of seven categories, from ‘Best Ute’ to ‘Best Performance car’ and everything in between.
For 2020, the Judges awarded the Isuzu D-MAX the title of ‘Best Ute’, with News Corp’s National Motoring Editor, Richard Blackburn praising the D-MAX as “the new benchmark in the 4WD ute class, thanks to its class-leading safety and excellent value for money.”
"Refinements to the engine and suspension have made it more economical and better to drive, while the cabin has better quality materials and all the latest entertainment and connectivity features,” remarked Mr Blackburn, when commenting on the rationale involved when deciding the D-MAX as the ‘2020 Ute of the Year’ winner.
Over the last decade, utes have quickly evolved from just a humble vehicle of trade to some of the most feature-packed and versatile vehicles on Australian roads. Utes have grown exponentially in popularity—overtaking the sales of traditional family haulers such as station wagons, sedans and SUVs to become the top-choice of families seeking uncompromised practicality, lifestyle capability and flexible versatility.
"Four-wheel-drive utes have become de facto family vehicles in recent years and in that regard, the Isuzu ticks all the boxes, keeping the family safe and entertained on outback adventures. It's a real work and play vehicle for families with an active lifestyle," praised Mr Blackburn.
In high demand since its Australian debut in September 2020, the third-generation Isuzu D-MAX has found favour amongst thousands of Aussie motorists—selling in record numbers to elevate the D-MAX to third position within its ‘1-tonne ute segment’ across the sales charts of the final quarter of 2020—with an all-time record of 2,409 models sold in December 2020.
